See the following tips to transform your home into an energy-efficient living
space:
- Compact Fluorescent Lighting: convert standard incandescent light bulbs to highly
efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs that use about one-fourth less energy.
- High Efficiency Toilets: use an average of 20 percent less water per flush. For a
family of four that can mean a savings of almost 9,000 gallons of water each year.
- Choose the right size HVAC system: an over or undersized HVAC system will result
in poor energy efficiency, higher fuel costs, and an uncomfortable home. Take this
into consideration when remodeling your home or purchasing a new one.
- Insulation, caulking, and weather stripping: ensure your home is adequately
insulated by placing caulking and weather stripping around doors, windows, and
cracks in siding to save energy and reduce your heating bill.
- Install a Dimmer Switch: save energy, cut down on the electricity bill, and extend
the life of light bulbs.
- Thermostat: replace your thermostat with a programmable one that can adjust
room temperature while you are gone.
- Install ceiling fans: to bring warm air down from the ceiling in the winter and cool
you off in the summer.
